la butte des charmes

using theater to understand the city

One semester a year, I teach a class entitled “Theater and fiction in public spaces; taking an offbeat look at what exists and breaking down our worlds” for master students at the Marseille School of Architecture. La butte des charmes is the result of the first edition.

From February to June 2024, students imagined a fictional story set on the Butte des Carmes, a stone’s throw from the Marseille School of Architecture. Using this work, they set out to explore the question of project dynamics: what do we dream, and what happens to those dreams? As architects, are the projects we design really always oriented towards the common good?

La Butte des Charmes  is a sarcastic, offbeat and ironic look at the boundless megalomania of developer Bernard.ette de Saint-Yvellinie... Follow the guides.
